Living History really is an apt tile, as Hillary seems to be a kind of Forrest Gump, world or U.S. events always touching her in a personal way. She recounts her childhood growing up in Chicago, her student days at the time of the civil rights movement and the Vietnam war. Then she embarks on a distinguished legal career, serving on the prosecuting team that impeached Nixon, and meeting Bill Clinton. We have their life in Arkansas and then as First Lady she campaigns for expanded healthcare in the U.S. and travels round the world as an international ambassador, meeting world leaders and campaigning for better women's rights. However, Bill's presidency is a traumatic time for the Clintons, with personal losses and persecution in the form of endless litigation.
I've been surprised at how readable the book was. There are no shocking revelations - what do you expect - but she does make clear which issues matter to her. And yes, she should be president one day as she makes it clear she has unfinished business on healthcare reform.
