Ok, so it's not really anything like the quoted battery life in published specifications - but they very rarely are that accurate! I've had my phone less than a week so it probably hasn't even reached its maximum battery capacity yet but still it easily lasts 2-3 days with moderate to high usage. I frequently listen to the radio for at least an hour or so a day and am always using the video camera and playing with the many built-in features. I use Bluetooth (a big battery consumer) several times a day to send photos and videos to friends and I often play energy-eating JAVA games.
With such a large vivid screen, obviously the battery will suffer a little bit, but really, it is nothing to worry about. I really wanted this phone and liked everything about it until I read the poor battery reviews and that very nearly put me off getting it all together. I took the chance and now I'm happy!
So, what else is good about the K700i?
FEATURES/MENU As mentioned, there are ample features on the phone, all of which are easy to use and not too fiddly. I especially like the way the menus are laid out - 12 main icons on the 'desktop' and then each item has either a simple list within it or a page of 'tabs' like a computer would have. The 'tab's' split up the menu into sections e.g. SETTINGS --> GENERAL/SOUND/DISPLAY/CALLS. One thing which is not good is the access to speaker phone.. One cannot switch on the speaker phone while on the call. Youââ¬â¢d have to tell the caller to wait for a while, and access it deep down the menu. This should have been a single touch feature as is in many nokia phone.
FILE MANAGMENT I also really like the way Sony-Ericsson have created a file-manager type system where you can move items (photos/videos/sounds etc) into existing folders and even create your own folders. It makes locating items much easier later, especially if you take lots of photos like me!
PHOTO QUALITY I have yet to view my photos on a computer screen but have seen a friendââ¬â¢s K700i photos uploaded into the computer image editor supplied and they are of excellent quality - perfectly acceptable digital photos, especially if you want to share them online without having to upload huge file sizes.
LOOKS The phone itself is very stylish to look at. There's a mixture of brushed-aluminium and shiny chrome-effect surfaces with very nice keys. The only downside I can see to the design is the fiddly flap at the bottom that allows access to the charger and hands-free ports. But I suppose, without this they would just fill with pocket fluff and dust! The phone is very compact and quite dense-feeling but by no-means heavy. It gives the impression of a well made piece of equipment and does not feel plasticy / empty / tinny.
RADIO The radio is amazing. There's nearly always crystal-clear reception (it only ever seems to deteriorate deep within a large building). Being able to store multiple-radio-channels is a huge benefit and the supplied headphones are very good.
VOICE CONTROL The voice-activated dialling is very effective. Some phones will end up with you calling a taxi when your trying to phone home but this phone works correctly every time. I especially like the 'magic word' option. This allows you to say a special phrase (anything you choose) that then activates the voice-dialling function - COMPLETE HANDS FREE voice dialling. It's just a shame that this feature reduces battery time but would be ideal if using your phone with a hands free kit whilst it is plugged into the car charger. You can also accept / reject a call just by saying "answer" or "busy" !!
There are so many features to talk about, but lets put a full stop here. Do buy this phone.. itââ¬â¢s a good one.
